Speech-in-Noise

Participants listen to spoken targets (words, digits, or sentences) presented over background noise (e.g., speech-shaped noise, multi-talker babble) at varying signal-to-noise ratios and repeat or identify the target. The signal-to-noise ratio yielding a criterion level of accuracy provides a sensitive index of speech reception threshold and listening effort under adverse conditions.
