getAttr(el: HTMLElement, attr: string): string
Helper to safely get an HTML attribute value as a string.
Parameters
- el: HTMLElement
  HTML element to get attribute from
- attr: string
  Name of the attribute to retrieve
Returns string
Attribute value as string, or empty string if null
